  1. I met with my cooperating teacher this afternoon. It was a nice experience. I know her from working at my school but haven't really gotten to talk with her on a more professional level. I gave her a copy of a lesson for science which I have yet to use, she really thought it was great and wanted to see more. In her classroom I am going to present some social studies lessons about our culture. There are very basic standards and benchmarks for this subject and none of them show up on a report card for 2nd grade. She and I both felt that the students would enjoy learning another subject that she doesn't always get time to teach. The students in the class were very well behaved and excited to have me there and to have me teach them in a couple of weeks.

  3. Hello everyone,

I actually began working with my cooperating teacher last week. I am very thankful that I stumbled into her classroom. I in fact found her by accident. On the day our class did the school visit to Mesa Verde, Dana and I mistakenly went into her classroom. We were only in there for a few minutes, but I really liked what I saw. She has been very welcoming and helpful, just as I suspected she would be.
On my first day there the class worked on vocabulary words. Although they are only fourth graders, they learned words that were a bit challenging even for me. For example, one was reminiscent.?? I would have most likely left out the c.
When they finished reviewing the vocabulary words she set the timer for fifteen minutes and instructed the students to write a story using the words they had just learned. When they were done a few of the students shared them with the class. (They were really good!) She also has them write in cursive, which has in turn, allowed most of the students to become very proficient in this area. It has even questioned my own ability to write this way. After seeing how well the students write, I’ve started brushing up on my own cursive skills. I’ve already learned so much in this class. If any of you ever get a chance, you should definitely go observe Mrs. Eveland, she is wonderful in every way!

  4. Good morning everybody! I just love my teacher. In case you forgot she is at Mesa View and is a 7th grade reading and science teacher. I just am amazed at her unit planning. She really looks for the bigger picture and how to make connections with everything the students do. I like my lessons a little more hands on then hers. I showed her my previous lessons from science that I have taught before. She loved them. I just planned two lessons that we may team teach or she may let me do it my self. The main reason her lessons are not as hands on this year is due to the set of students she has. She has graciously said though I may do as I wish because when I teach they are my students. She has very few rules she would like me to continue and I agree with them. They are having them sit until dismissed, can only go to library during reading class, may not go to bathroom during class, and the students are not allowed to enter the room until she opens the door in case she is talking to a student. So my first week has just been wonderful. Sorry I have not posted sooner but she just always wants to talk to me and keep me busy. If you are unsure of the higher grades you should go observe her and she will change your mind.

  5. I have gone in to observe and help out my cooperating classroom a few times! The first time was to help out in the "Great Pumpkin Line-up!" Students chose their pumpkins, weighed their pumpkins and created a graph of how much a group's pumpkins weighed, sorted pumpkins according to whatever characteristic they wanted and drew a three-circle venn diagram of it, measured the circumference of their pumpkins, measured the height of their pumpkins and put them in ordinal order, painted their pumpkins, and wrote a story about their pumpkins! It was AMAZING. The students were engaged, learning, and having fun! I returned for their Halloween party just to get to know the students. I went again today and helped out a bit in math and learned some routines and spent some time talking with the teacher. I will be there all day tomorrow, as well, learning procedures, routines, and discussing and sharing lesson plans and ideas with the teacher. So far it has been a great experience and I am really looking forward to my 10 days :)

  6. I have been going to my Kindergarten class every Tuesday and Thursday to help out my cooperating teacher, observe, and learn. I am really enjoying my time there and looking forward to my many more visits to her classroom. Mrs. Martinez is WONDERFUL/AMAZING and so much more! Everything she does, is hands-on and very engaging. She teaches Math and Reading in Centers. I am truely blessed and thankful that I have found a great teacher to "shadow" because I know that I am going to learn so much from her.
I presented a reading lesson on 11/02/2010. It went really well, so I was pleased. I did "My Beginning Sounds Book" with the students reading groups. The students really enjoyed the lesson because they were able to draw a card as opposed to me picking a card.
I am getting really excited about my 10 day teaching!!! :)

  7. The week of October 25 my teacher was gone so I was not able to observe the class. She told me to go and observe the sub so I went on that Wednesday, although I', not really sure why. I helped the sub for awhile and then there was an assembly.
Starting this week on November 1 I have been going every afternoon to McKinley from 12:30 until about 2:00, sometimes later depending on if my CT needs help. My CT is Mrs. Shaheen and she is a second grade teacher. I will be doing my 10 day unit on math. I will be doing regrouping the week before Thanksgiving and the week after I will be working with money. I am very excited to teach my lessons. I think that my CT is great to work with. She as taught me a lot already. I plan on going to McKinley everyday from 12:30-2:00 so I can get the routine of the class and so that the students will get to know me and I will get to know them. I's getting some great ideas about my lessons and can't wait to start.

  8. The first week in the classroom as been awesome. I have gotten to know the children and they are awesome. Thy are full of excitement! I like working one on one with the students that really need it. I have been getting great feedback from the teacher on my ideas. I like this school because it seems that everyone gets along and they work well together. They are all on the same page.
