Thank you for posting your reflections of the Classroom Management workshop presented by ShaLyn Weisheit on Tuesday, August 24.
ReplyDeletePatricia Hill here- I enjoyed the workshop on classroom management and hope I will learn to utilize some of the strategies presented. I think ShayLyn Wiesheit did a super job putting that together. I got the contact information of one attendee whose comments really seemed right on target for my style of teaching/learning. I believe her school is progressive in their attempts to improve this aspect of teaching. New Ideas! I’d like to share a point made by my partner and I think it has more weight based on his years of teaching experience. He stressed that getting to know, becoming familiar with the kids in the classroom is a big deal. Also he stressed the importance of being aware of the entire room at all times.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the workshop. ShaLyn Weisheit gave us some great information on classroom management. As a future teacher one of my biggest fears is not being able to manage my classroom but this workshop made me feel a little more comfortable. I liked working with another teacher who has had experience in the classroom. She gave me a bunch of good ideas to use. My partner recently went to a conference for Middle School teachers and they told her that when starting out the year the teacher should make some kind of presentation about themselves, my partner made a PowerPoint, so the students get to know who you are. I thought that was interesting because I think that students sometimes forget that teachers are human too.
ReplyDeleteThe workshop was a great way to get old and new teachers together to talk about the many things that can occur in the classroom and the different approaches old and new that can be done to prevent issues from ever starting. I found it to be quite informational and learned a few new ideas from it.I feel classroom management is one very key component missing from the UNM program. I also believe that it entails alot of on the job training as you can't simulate every behavior scenario in a classroom setting and know how to handle it. The same problem can be handled in several different ways depending on your particular set of students.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the workshop because it was a good opportunity to talk to experienced teachers. I think it gave great insight to a first day of school. I think the information about classroom management, rules, and behavior problems. I am glad that we were able to attend this workshop. It gave me a drive to keep going!
ReplyDeleteI felt like the workshop really cemented what I had already learned about classroom management. I had already learned a lot just from observations and some of our previous classes, and this workshop just kind of reaffirmed that knowledge. There were, of course, a few new things that I learned, as well, and chatting with "master teachers" was a huge bonus! I am thankful that we are student teaching starting in January instead of the beginning of the school year - a lot of the management will have already been taken care of for us. On the other hand, it would have also been good to get some practice in. Either way, I am excited about next semester and, after that, having my very own classroom in which to try some of the management strategies mentioned in the workshop and other classes.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your reflections about the classroom management workshop. One of the big "take aways' for me was the simple, yet effective, listening activity we did where we had to listen to each person in our group without talking or making comments. Only after each person spoke, then we were able to tengage in dialogue. This is a sensitive and respectful protocol for implementing in all classrooms at all levels, for it validates the speaker and helps the listener really LISTEN. This activity will contribute to classroom management and I hope that you will add this gem to your classroom rules.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Frances
The classroom management workshop was an inspiring experience. There teachers who taught for 20 years as well as future teachers and everything in between. It was great to come together and hear stories and advice about personal experiences. I learned that getting to know your students is very important to show that you care. I knew that getting to know them was important, but the fact that this workshop and other teachers stressed how important it is, made me realize that it is a BIG deal. I was learn important components of this workshop which I will be able to put practice starting this semester :)
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful that we were able to be a part of that workshop
